My laptop is just about dead but I am managing to keep it running long enough to grab a bunch of content off of it. Whew!

While making my way around, I found myself in a space where there were some rare old images I didn’t know, or remember, I had there. This is one of my favourites.

Steve by Fizz

I worked as a racing photographer in England for quite a few years. If you work around racing folks long enough you get a nickname. Mine was Fizz. For my effervescent personality, so they said. Smile.

I had a mad crush on Steve Cauthen. He was champion jockey both in the US and UK.

I took a quick snap of Cauthen following a race at Haydock, my home park in Liverpool. Look at the date. 1992! That’s my writing by the way.

Cauthen is explaining to the owner how his horse ran in the race. It was used by the Echo.

I was much, much younger when I made my earliest trip to Haydock. My dad took me at the age of 9 months.  I was enthralled he said and very well behaved.

Royal Wedding Countdown

The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just around the corner, May 19th.

It is difficult to think about anything other than the Derby when you live in Kentucky, particularly if you live in Louisville a little over two miles from Churchill Downs. The wedding however is two weeks from Derby Day, May 5th.

I am nuts about hats so for me a royal wedding means hats, hats and more hats by the most celebrated milliners in the world. Every British milliner I know is pretty much frazzled out.

It seems most people however are speculating about the Ms Markle’s wedding dress. Vera Wang is not making it. It has been confirmed by the super chic celebrated wedding dress designer herself.

People.com reports:

The royal wedding countdown is on . . . . and there’s one thing on everyone’s mind: What will the bride-to-be wear down the aisle?

“Other than [wearing] us, and she’s not wearing us – there are two ways for her to go: American or British. Given her new position, her new status, and her new role, she’ll very well go British,” Wang predicted in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

As for the overall style and silhouette of Markle’s gown, Wang predicts it won’t be nearly as traditional as Princess Diana or Princess Kate’s wedding dresses.

Princess Diana’s was a huge confection of a dress. The dress the Duchess of Cambridge was married in was too low key for me but that has turned out to be her style overall. Her sister Pippa received much more attention for how she was dressed (smile) — who happens to be expecting her first child by the way. Congratulations!

Whatever Ms Markle chooses to wear on her wedding day, one thing you can say about her is the girl knows how to wear a hat. So she has my seal of approval! In that area anyway.

There are loads of royal wedding countdown sites but here’s one that looks pretty festive: https://yourcountdown.to/the-royal-wedding. Let’s get the party started.

Bye for now.
